It’s always a treat when the Detroit Red Wings and Philadelphia Flyers play one another and the matchup Tuesday night should be no different. It is the last meeting of the year between the two heavyweights and the outcome will determine which team ends up winning the season series.

Both teams head into the matchup with disappointing losses, as Detroit lost 5-4 in a shootout to the Florida Panthers on Sunday and Philadelphia was creamed 6-1 against Boston on Sunday. In fact, that loss gives the Flyers their fourth straight loss and fifth in their last six games.

The Red Wings remain a banged up hockey team but continue to find ways to hang around in the Atlantic Division. Whether it’s scoring a bunch of goals and winning in the third period or shaky up the goaltending and winning in a grind it out matchup, Detroit is somehow still right in the thick of the playoff race. You would like to see more consistent offense, but I’m sure Detroit fans won’t complain with three wins in the last five games.

Philadelphia is in serious trouble with its losing streak. The goaltending has been absolutely horrendous with 18 combined goals allowed in its last four games. The offense also hasn’t been any better, with no more than two goals scored in its last three. The Flyers are certainly capable of playing better hockey but need to do a much better job of keeping the puck out of the net.

I think Philadelphia’s luck finally turns around on Tuesday. The Flyers need this win more than anything and there is one alarming trend that indicates they’ll get it.

In the last 19 meetings between these two teams, the home team has won 17 of those matchups.

Yeah, sign me up.

Philadelphia is also 6-0 in its last six games played on Tuesday.

The Flyers will get the job done in front of their home crowd.

Pick:
Philadelphia Flyers -136
