The firing of Peter Laviolette is just another example of the mismanagement of the Philadelphia Flyers. This organization continues to think they can recreate the wheel every offseason and after just three games they elected to blame the man behind the bench. Paul Holmgren has been mishandling things for years and the Los Angeles Kings winning the Stanley Cup with Jeff Carter and Mike Richards reunited should have been enough for Ed Snider to see who the real problem was. Instead he's sat through the disaster that was Ilya Bryzgalov and now watched his general manager bring in aging veterans this offseason and a goaltending duo that consists of Steve Mason and Ray Emery. Anyone that thinks the Flyers are going anywhere this season please expain how to me. Still, this is a good spot for this club against a lousy Florida Panthers team. Philadelphia has scored three goals in three games but they should be able to light the lamp a couple of times in this one against a Panthers team that got beat 7-0 by the St. Louis Blues on Saturday.
That's right, after an impressive opening night win in Dallas the Panthers remembered who they were and were absolutely dominated by the Blues. Florida managed just 19 shots on goal in the game against St. Louis' stingy defense and Tim Thomas was pulled after allowing five goals on 28 shots. Every player except for Kris Versteeg was at least a -1 on the night as Florida just couldn't match up with a team of St. Louis' caliber. Thomas didn't get much support in front of him in this one but it's much more likely we're going to see an up and down type of year from the veteran after taking a year off and not playing in front of Boston's stout defense anymore. For whatever reason though the Panthers always seem to play the Flyers well in Philadelphia so we'll see how much that plays into things in this one. Personally I would stay away from this one because the Flyers haven't shown anything this season to warrant laying these odds.
