The Line: Philadelphia Flyers -120 / Florida Panthers +109 --- Over/Under: 5
NHL hockey action comes to the Wells Fargo Center when the Philadelphia Flyers host the Florida Panthers.
The Florida Panthers are fighting for a spot in the postseason but had been in a little bit of a funk before knocking off the visiting Carolina Hurricanes 3-2 in a shootout Tuesday to pick up a valuable two points. In the process, the Panthers won on home ice for the first time in five contests and prevented a four game slide. Florida saw their offense come from Jaromir Jagr and Vincent Trocheck in regulation with Aleksander Barkov and Jonathan Huberdeau scoring in the SO to make Roberto Luongo’s 23 stops hold up. The slumping Hurricanes received their scoring come from Lee Stempiak and Sebastian Aho but Cam Ward absorbed the loss with 29 saves as Carolina has dropped seven of eight.
As a Philadelphia Flyers fan I know two things; the team hasn’t been scoring and the playoffs are drifting further away. The Flyers found their offense in a 4-0 win versus the visiting Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday but are six points away from the second Wild Card because they have just three wins in their last ten contests. Wayne Simmons was the offensive star for the Flyers with a pair of goals with Jordan Weal and Jakub Voracek also lighting the lamp. Claude Giroux also logged two helpers to give Steve Mason and his 33 stops more then enough support. The Avalanche are at the bottom of the NHL standings with a 17-41-3 record as Jeremy Smith was all by his lonesome in the nets for the Avalanche with 22 stops in just his 4th start.
The over is 2-0-3 in Panthers last 5 vs. a team with a losing record and the Panthers are 4-0 in their last 4 vs. a team with a losing record while the Panthers are 5-0 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a winning home record. The Flyers are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win and the under is 6-0-1 in Flyers last 7 home games vs. a team with a losing road record while the Flyers are 0-6 in their last 6 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. The under is 4-0-1 in the last 5 meetings in Philadelphia and the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the Panthers are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings in Philadelphia.
The trends support Philadelphia and the under but I only have a lean for this until goalies are confirmed…
