The Predators look for a rare road victory as they head into the City of Brotherly Love to take on the much improved Philadelphia Flyers.
The Predators as we have mentioned a number of times this season are in the midst of a down swing and will with almost certainty miss the playoffs this season and have a chance at a lottery pick. Nashville is two seasons removed from having one of their best runs in team history but have fallen on hard times since that push as they have lost a ton of talent to free agency. The biggest has to have been Ryan Suter who is putting up ridiculous minutes in Minnesota and is a huge reason why the Wild are enjoying success but the loss of Alex Radulov and Martin Erat while aren’t nearly as substantial have still created a void left unfilled. Nashville isn’t too far away though from jumping back into the playoff discussion and if they can bring in a couple of pieces in the offseason or add a top end talent through the draft plus get Pekka Rinne back in goal I think there is a very good chance they could be back in the postseason as early as next season.
Philadelphia meanwhile looked as though they were in the same boat as the Predators as they were struggling mightily to begin the season and were well on their way to missing the playoffs once again. However, a recent surge and an underachieving division has the Flyers right back in the mix in the Metropolitan and they have a very realistic shot at making the playoffs and possibly going on a nice run. The Flyers have a ton of talent offensively and are among the best in the Conference in the that respect and if they can get their blue line to perform they way it can and have Steve Mason continue his success than the Flyers could be a darkhorse team come playoff time. As for tonight’s contest the Flyers are pretty heavy favourites and for good cause as I think they matchup well against the Preds and to me this game shouldn’t be close as Philly skates away with a multi goal victory.
