TThe Philadelphia Flyers host the New York Islanders in Metropolitan NHL action.

The New York Islanders have suffered back to back shutout losses following a 4-0 defeat at Montreal on Thursday. With the offense struggling Thomas Greiss also struggled in the nets with four goals allowed on 22 shots before Robin Lehner stopped 12 shots in relief.

Joel Armia lit the lamp in the first for Montreal with Shea Weber, Jonathan Drouin and Jordan Weal lighting the lamp in the third. Armia, Drouin and Weal also posted assists and Carey Price recorded 28 saves to get the win.

The Philadelphia Flyers shut down the high powered Chicago Blackhawks 3-1 on Thursday night who had lost three of four. Erik Gustafsson gave Chicago a 1-0 lead 10:39 in to the first off and Corey Crawford was a tough luck loser with two goals allowed on 27 shots.

Corban Knight lit the lamp in the first for Philadelphia with James van Riemsdyk netting the winner in the third. Sean Couturier scored on the empty net and Carter Hart picked up the win with a 40 save performance.

Islanders are 17-7 in their last 24 vs. a team with a losing record and Islanders are 14-6 in their last 20 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and Islanders are 7-3 in their last 10 games as a road underdog.

Flyers are 4-1 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest and Flyers are 20-9 in their last 29 overall and Flyers are 1-8 in their last 9 home games vs. a team with a winning road record.

Favorite is 47-17 in the last 64 meetings and over is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings and over is 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Philadelphia.

I guess we could argue the Flyers are playing the better hockey but I think they are in cruise control. I’ll back Philadelphia because the Islanders offense is nowhere to be found…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
