The St. Louis Blues travel to the Wells Fargo Center to face the Philadelphia Flyers in NHL hockey.

I always say when the Pittsburgh Penguins find their defense on any given night, they are tough to beat with the way they light up the scoreboard. The St. Louis Blues learned that lesson in a 4-1 loss to the visiting Penguins on Saturday. Captain Sydney Crosby led by example with two goals and a helper with Justin Schultz and Kris Letang also scoring. The Pittsburgh defense was outstanding with Marc-Andre Fleury stopping 22 shots in the victory. The Blues lone source of offense came off the stick of Patrik Berglund while Jake Allen absorbed the loss despite a 27 save performance as ne head coach Mike Yeo fell to 1-1.

In any sport, the objective is to have a bigger number on the scoreboard then your opponents which means you have to at least score. Ask the Philadelphia Flyers about that theory after suffering a 1-0, overtime defeat at the hands of the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Saturday afternoon. The Flyers defense and goaltending was rock solid but 27 saves turned out to be one too few. The surging Kings only goal came at 2:35 of the extra session when  Anze Kopitar’s cross ice pass found the stick of Jeff Carter who buried a wrist shot to make Peter Budaj a winner with his 7th shutout of the season. The red hot Kings have now won five in a row.

The over is 5-0-1 in Blues last 6 vs. a team with a losing record and the over is 6-1-3 in Blues last 10 Monday games while the Blues are 1-5 in their last 6 games playing on 1 days rest. The under is 3-0-1 in Flyers last 4 home games and the over is 7-0-1 in Flyers last 8 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game while the Flyers are 1-6 in their last 7 vs. Western Conference. The home team is 6-1 in the last 7 meetings and the Blues are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in Philadelphia.

The trends say Philadelphia might be worth a look especially with the playoff battle heating up…

Pick:
Philadelphia -110

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
