The Toronto Maple Leafs visit the Wells Fargo Center for an NHL bout with the Philadelphia Flyers.
The Toronto Maple Leafs are second in the Atlantic behind the Tampa Bay Lightning as trying to play catch up with the best team in the game is proving to be a difficult task. Toronto has won three straight after a 1-0 win versus the visiting Edmonton Oilers on Sunday night as the #5 offense took a back seat to their defense.
The big time offense of the Maple Leafs saw the only goal of the game come off the stick of Zach Hyman just 34 seconds in to the first period with William Nylander and Jake Gardiner supplying assists. Curtis McElhinney came huge for Toronto as he brushed aside 41 shots to pick up the win while Laurent Brossoit logged 22 saves in absorbing the loss.
The Philadelphia Flyers have secured themselves a spot in the Metropolitan basement thanks to a miserable ten game slide. Philadelphia has been trying to dig out of last place and have won three in a row after upending the Vancouver Canucks 4-1 on the road on Thursday behind a complete effort at both ends of the ice. Brock Boeser scored the only goal for the Canucks and Jacob Markstrom stopped 22 shots in the loss.
The Flyers received scoring off the sticks of Shayne Gostibehere and Claude Giroux for a 2-0 edge before Wayne Simmonds and Michael Raffl recorded empty net tallies. Jacub Voracek added three helpers and Brian Elliott made 36 saves to help Philadelphia to their first three game winning streak of the season.
Maple Leafs are 4-0 in their last 4 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and under is 4-0 in Maple Leafs last 4 Tuesday games and Maple Leafs are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. Flyers are 0-6 in their last 6 home games and Flyers are 0-4 in their last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and Flyers are 0-4 in their last 4 Tuesday games. Over is 4-1-2 in the last 7 meetings.
Philadelphia has shown a pulse lately so I’m hoping they put up a fight and continue to score because I’m looking at the over right now…
