The Capitals are hoping that the third time’s a charm as they head into Philadelphia for a game six show down with the Flyers.
The Washington Capitals are seeing visions of past playoff nightmares as they have lost back to back games and now hold a slim 3-2 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers in a series that looked as though it would be done in four until Michal Neuvirth showed up and changed everything. The Caps were the league’s best team during the the regular season and looked the part heading into this series with the Flyers as they cruised to a 3-0 start and were already focused on the second round heading into game four in Philadelphia on Wednesday. The Caps still need just a single victory in their next two contests and didn’t lose four games in a row all season long but Neuvirth has a personal vendetta against the Caps and right now is playing out of his mind and could continue that on Sunday.
The Flyers are ecstatic to still be playing hockey as they have won back to back games in this series and now trail 3-2 heading home for a shot at evening the series with a win at Wells Fargo today. Philadelphia had very few chances in their win on Friday while the Caps were lambasting Michal Neuvirth with shots and had ample opportunity to score but the former Caps goaltender was on point all night long and held on for a massive shutout win that has set up tonight’s game six show down. The story of Neuvirth has been excellent and while it is bound to come to an end I think we can ride it once more as the Flyers crowd will be rowdy and I think they force a deciding game seven with a win at home on Sunday.
