At 18-8-5 the Phoenix Coyotes are one of the early surprises in the NHL this season and no matter how well they play they'll continue to fly under the radar. It's a blessing and a curse for a club like Phoenix that doesn't garner much attention in their own market but also allows the Coyotes to just focusing on playing hockey and not worry about all the other stuff. In some of the bigger hockey markets it's not so easy to just focus on the game but in Phoenix it's probably the last thing on everybody's mind. Thursday night the Coyotes used a four goal second period to take control of the game against a New York Islanders club on their way to a 6-3 victory. Mikkel Boedker scored twice and Mike Ribeiro and Rob Klinkhammer also scored for the Coyotes in the frame. Keith Yandle scored a first period goal and Klinkhammer would add his second of the night in the third period to help seal the win. Mike Smith wasn't great but still made 21 saves to pick up his 14th vicory of the season. This Coyotes club is going to be dangerous if they make the post season and while that might not be easy for them in their division they should have a great chance if they keep playing the way they have to start the year. Carolina comes into this game thankful for the overtime point because at 13-13-7 the Hurricanes shouldnt be in contention but still are because of loser points and a horrible Metropolitan Division. Carolina three straight games on this road trip that brough them to Vancouver, Edmonton, and Calgary. The Hurricanes will finish things up in Phoenix against a Coyotes club that rarely loses on home ice and have been playing very well of late. This is an ugly line we're dealing with here but it's hard to like the Hurricanes in this spot with the way they've played.
