The New York Rangers head west as they embark on the Alain Vigneault era. Things are certainly different around the hockey club with the change in atmosphere but the roster comes back pretty much in tact from last year. Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin will both start the season recovering from shoulder surgery but neither should miss significant time this year. The biggest changes for this club will be in philosophy and that's something that everyone in the organization agreed the team needed. Expect a more uptempo style of play from the Rangers this year and definitely a more aggressive approach in the defensive zone than we've seen in the past.
In Phoenix we can expect to see the Dave Tippett Coyotoes club we've come to know that play sound fundamental hockey and try to get by with the offense that they have. The addition of Mike Ribeiro should help them up front with Shane Doan returning and players like Antoine Vermette, Lauri Korpikoski, and Mikkel Boedker back in the fold as well. Mike Smith has thrived in this system and should be on track for another solid year but this team is going to need to find a way to generate more offense if they want to be in the mix for a playoff spot in the Western Conference.
