The Penguins look to continue their successful Western road trip in the desert tonight as they take on the Phoenix Coyotes.
The Penguins continue to prove why they are the team to beat in the Eastern Conference this season as they have been dominant since the puck dropped in October and are only getting better. The Pens showed off their offensive prowess against the Kings on Thursday with a number of highlight reel efforts and with the struggling Coyotes on tap I don’t think anyone would be surprised to see the Pens get into the Sports Center Top 10 again in this one. Pittsburgh is loaded up front with Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz, James Neal, and Jussi Jokinen just to name a few and while they may have question marks in other facets of the game there is no denying they are one of the best offensive teams in the league. Marc-Andre Fleury is scheduled to start as he goes up against Mike Smith of the Coyotes.
Phoenix has had a pretty turbulent year on the ice as they have been very up and down and can’t seem to find the same magic we saw from them over the last two seasons. While there is still time to turn things around I don’t see the Coyotes being much of a threat come playoff time if they get there at all as I think there are way too many talented teams in the West that are head and shoulders above the Coyotes. Mike Smith has proven he can steal a game and he was honoured for his play by being named to the Canadian Olympic team so if he can get going here the Coyotes should stay competitive but ultimately I don’t think they have enough in the tank offensively to compete with Pittsburgh. The Pens are getting a decent price here because they’re on the road and I think it is worth jumping on.
