The Anaheim Ducks and the Pittsburgh Penguins meet in NHL action from PPG Paints Arena on Monday night.
The Anaheim Ducks will look to keep their momentum going after winning 3 straight and 10 of their last 12 games after a 2-1 overtime win over Columbus in their last outing. Columbus opened the scoring but their lead would last all of 3:50 before Daniel Sprong tied the game for Anaheim, giving us a 1-1 tie after 20 minutes of play. The game went back and forth for the next two periods with neither side finding the back of the net in regulation. Sprong would score his 2nd of the game just 1:19 into the extra frame to give the Ducks the win and the extra point in the end. John Gibson got the win to improve his record to 14-9-4 this season after stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced in the winning effort.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will be looking to build on back-to-back wins after a 4-3 overtime win over the Los Angeles Kings in their last outing. Matt Cullen and Bryan Rust helped the Pens jump out to an early 2-0 lead by the end of the opening period. Los Angeles would cut the deficit in half before Tanner Pearson scored against his former team to restore the two-goal cushion before the Kings scored again to make it a 3-2 lead heading into the final 20 minutes. Pittsburgh would be unable to hold onto the lead as the Kings would tie the game, sending us to overtime where Phil Kessel buried the winner with just over a minute to go, giving the Pens the win. Matt Murray got the win to improve to 5-5-1 this season after stopping 38 of 41 shots faced in the winning effort.
Anaheim is 5-0 in their last 5 road games and 8-1 in their last 9 games overall while the under is 9-2 in their last 11 games against the Eastern Conference. Pittsburgh is 5-2 in their last 7 games overall and 17-5 in their last 22 games against the Western Conference while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 home games. Anaheim is 3-7 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams and 2-8 in the last 10 meetings between these two teams in Pittsburgh.
Okay, I know the home team has had the bulk of the success between these two sides, winning 14 of the last 20 meetings between the two and that Anaheim hasn’t had a lot of luck in Pittsburgh. However, the Ducks continue to get no love from oddsmakers as Anaheim has been money on the road during this recent hot stretch. Pittsburgh has always been a tough nut to crack at home, but we cashed on the Ducks as underdogs on Saturday and I think we can do it again so I’ll take the Ducks and plus money in this one.
