The Boston Bruins head into Pittsburgh on Sunday for a show down against the Penguins as both teams continue their pursuit for a home playoff spot.
The Bruins look for their 4th win in a row against Eastern Conference foes with a road victory against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday and with the way the B’s have been playing of late there doesn’t look like a ton of teams in the NHL who can slow them down. Boston has absolutely dominated the Penguins over the last couple of seasons as they are 15-6 in their last 21 meetings, but most of that damage has come on home ice as they are winless in their last 4 trips to Pittsburgh and will need a strong outing here in front of Jaroslav Halak if they’re going to reverse that trend. Boston is 21-8 in their last 29 contests overall and are heating up at the right time with the playoffs just around the corner, and with a first round matchup against the Leafs in the opening round looking like a certainty the B’s can focus on finishing the season off playing their best.
The Penguins meanwhile are coming off a road loss yesterday against the Columbus Blue Jackets but they are back at home on Sunday and will be out to send the Bruins to a rare loss. Pittsburgh is 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and are 25-9 in their last 34 Sunday games but they will have their work cut out for them here against the Bruins who are 7-1 in their last 8 games against a team with a winning record and have one of the deepest rosters in the NHL. The Pens and Bruins have played to the Over in 9 of their last 10 show downs so expect to see a high total here but that may not be enough as the offense should take focus with both teams sending their respective goalies to the crease here.
The Bruins are 5-1 in their last 6 as a road underdog and are 8-2 in their last 10 playing in the back end of a double header while the Penguins are 15-7 in their last 22 playing in a double header and the home team is 10-1 in the last 11 meetings with these two sides. Boston is getting a ton of value here as they are the better team and should be able to get the Pens who have looked suspect on defense this season.
