The Line: Pittsburgh Penguins -220 / Buffalo Sabres +190 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The NHL comes to PPG PAINTS Arena where the Pittsburgh Penguins host the Buffalo Sabres.
The Buffalo Sabres are looking to start a hot streak with a visit to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. Buffalo has dropped back to back contests following a 2-1, overtime loss at the Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
Defense and goaltending ruled this despite both teams having opportunities. The Sabres opened the soring with only six seconds remaining in the first period with an unassisted power play tally off the stick of Ryan O’Reilly. The lead held until 1:01 of the third when Montreal’s Jonathan Drouin evened the score on a power play as well.
Max Pacioretty secured two points for the Habs with his goal at 3:08 of the extra session. Pacioretty also had an assist and Charles Lindgren recorded 34 stops to get the win for the Canadiens. Chad Johnson made 28 saves for the Sabres who salvaged a point.
The defending Stanley Cup Champion Pittsburgh Penguins are on home ice to face the Buffalo Sabres after playing seven of eight on the road. Pittsburgh needs a shift in momentum with losses in six of eight after a 5-4 shootout defeat at the Nashville Predators on Saturday.
The Pitt offense saw scoring from Bryan Rust, Phil Kessel, Jake Guentzel and Brian Dumoulin with Kessel adding an assist. Filip Forsberg scored the winner in the SO and logged a pair of helpers while Calle Jarnkrok, Kyle Turris, PK Subban and Craig Smith lit the lamp for the Predators.
Tristian Jarry gave up four goals on 28 shots to fall to 0-0-2 in two starts for the Pens. Pekka Rinne stopped 26 shots to help Nashville to the two points and upped his record to 8-2-2.
Under is 3-0-1 in Sabres last 4 overall and over is 4-0-1 in Sabres last 5 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game and Sabres are 1-8 in their last 9 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game. Under is 4-0 in Penguins last 4 games playing on 2 days rest and Penguins are 0-4 in their last 4 when their opponent allows 2 goals or less in their previous game and Penguins are 7-1 in their last 8 games playing on 2 days rest. Sabres are 7-20-2 in the last 29 meetings in Pittsburgh and Sabres are 15-36-3 in the last 54 meetings.
The Sabres have really struggled in this matchup and both are struggling now. I don’t see goalie confirmations but I have to caution playing teams that are both having problems…
