Sunday NHL action features the Pittsburgh Penguins hosting the Carolina Hurricanes.

The Carolina Hurricanes avoided a three game skid with a 5-2 victory against visiting Philadelphia on Saturday. Claude Giroux gave Philadelphia a 1-0 lead in the first and Oskar Lindblom lithe lamp in the third period. James van Riemsdyk assisted on both goals for the Flyers who saw Cam Talbot allow three goals on 30 shots to get the loss.

The balanced Carolina attack received markers from Teuvo Teravainen, Dougie Hamilton and Justin Faulk for a 3-2 lead before Jacob Slavin and Brock McGinn added empty net tallies. Teravainen and McGinn also posted assists for the Hurricanes and Petr Mrazek recorded 30 stops to get the win.

The Pittsburgh Penguins saw their winning streak end at three games following a 3-1 defeat to visiting Nashville on Friday. Nick Bjugstad scored the Penguins only  goal with 63 seconds remaining and Matt Murray allowed three goals on 26 shots to get the loss.

Craig Smith, Viktor Arvidsson and PK Subban lit the lamp for the Predators. Subban also had an assist and Pekka Rinne picked up the win for Nashville with a monster 42 save performance.

Hurricanes are 10-4 in their last 14 road games and Hurricanes are 17-8 in their last 25 overall and Hurricanes are 1-5 in their last 6 vs. Metropolitan.
Penguins are 5-2 in their last 7 games playing on 1 days rest and Penguins are 7-3 in their last 10 vs. Eastern Conference and Penguins are 119-53 in their last 172 home games.

Favorite is 11-3 in the last 14 meetings and under is 8-1 in the last 9 meetings and under is 5-0 in the last 5 meetings in Pittsburgh.

Pittsburgh should be rested with the Hurricanes traveling and on back to backs. Something small on the Penguins because of the juice…

I have been a sports fan since I was old enough to pick up a ball and have always been drawn to competition. I don't participate in sporting events any longer but I do like to provide my opinion on games and writing gives me that outlet. I won't always be right but I always put 100% in to every article I do whether it's the World Series or an 0-10 college football team. Mitch shares that same passion and allows me to express myself in my own way.
