The Chicago Blackhawks look to continue their recent success against the Pittsburgh Penguins as the two sides meet up on Sunday.
The Blackhawks have had a tough season but if there is anything for them to hang their hats on it has been the play against one of the league’s best teams over the last couple of seasons as Jonathan Toews and company have dominated Sidney Crosby and the Pens to the tune of an 11-1 mark in their last 12 meetings. Chicago has been among the league’s biggest underachievers this season as they are well back of a playoff spot in the Central division and their play against Eastern Conference foes has slipped to a 2-9 mark in their last 11 games and they face a Penguins side on Sunday who has won 13 of their last 16 games and 8 in a row overall and are looking like a Cup contender once again. The Hawks are a woeful 16-35 in their last 51 road games but they are 4-0 in their last 4 meetings in Pittsburgh while the Under has cashed in 5 of the last 7 showdowns between these two teams when facing off at the PPG Paints Arena.
The Penguins meanwhile are one of the league’s hottest teams at the moment as they are skyrocketing up the Eastern Conference standings and are looking like a dangerous team heading into the new calendar season. Pittsburgh is loaded with familiar faces in the offensive zone as they are led by Sid Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, Phil Kessel and company in the offensive zone and against a Hawks team that has struggled against Metro division opponents the odds makers are banking on this being another easy win for the Penguins. Pittsburgh has been one of the league’s best home teams over the last few years as they are 110-45 in their last 155 games in front of their fans and while they have had issues dealing with the Hawks this looks to be another spot where the Pens should get two easy points.
The Hawks are winless in their last 4 Sunday games and and are 21-51 in their last 72 against a team with a winning record while the Penguins are 7-0 in their last 7 games following a win and 4-0 in their last 4 against the Central. The Pens are in a trap spot here but they avoid major damage with an easy win that happens in regulation.
