The Stars look to keep their grasp on the eight seed in the West as they head to Pittsburgh to take on the suddenly slumping Penguins.
It has been an emotional rollercoaster over the last week for the Dallas Stars as they went from watching one of their own stare death in the face only to go into St. Louis a night after and play some inspired hockey and now are coming off a thumping by the Winnipeg Jets. Through all of that Dallas still retains the final spot in the Western Conference but the Coyotes are in a deadlock with them and can surpass the Stars with a victory and a Dallas loss here against the Pens. Alex Goligoski will return to Pittsburgh tonight while the player he was swapped for in James Neal remains on the injury report for the Penguins who have dropped their last two games against their archrivals from Philadelphia. Tim Thomas will likely get the call in goal as he goes up against Marc-Andre Fleury.
The Penguins have been the class of the Metropolitan all season long but they were humbled over the weekend as their injury riddled lineup dropped a home and home set with the Philadelphia Flyers in what would be an amazing first round series if it fabricates. Pittsburgh and Philadelphia always play each other with extreme intensity and it was the Flyers who got the best of this encounter as they played of their best games all season. Pittsburgh will look to rebound here and stay within reach of the Bruins for the top seed in the East and while the line is still pending I don’t think it matters as Pittsburgh will be furious and with the possibility of getting Kris Letang back tonight I think we see the Pens come away with a win.
