Florida Panthers (31-28-11) at Pittsburgh Penguins (44-17-9)
|Date & Time||Sunday March 19, 2017, 1:00 PM (EDT)|
The Line: Pittsburgh Penguins -175 / Florida Panthers +150 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Florida Panthers invade PPG PAINTS Arena to face the Pittsburgh Penguins in Sunday afternoon NHL hockey action.
I would say the Florida Panthers are spoilers but in reality they still are mathematically alive in their playoff quest. The Panthers looked like a playoff team Friday night as they came back from a 2-0 hole to knock off the New York Rangers 4-3 in a shootout. Aleksander Barkov was the Panthers offensive star with a third period tally while scoring the winner in the shootout. Jussi Jokinen and Jonathan Huberdeau also lit the lamp to make a winner of James Reimer and his 29 stops. Mats Zuccarelo scored twice with JT Miller also scored to pace the Rangers while Antti Niemi recorded 34 saves in absorbing the loss as New York dropped number six in a row on home ice.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have several key injuries so the time is ripe for opponents to take advantage of them in their weakened state. It didn’t happen Friday as the Penguins rode their offense to a 6-4 victory versus the visiting New Jersey Devils. The Pens offensive featured two goals from star Sydney Crosby while Nick Bonino, Phil Kessel and Carter Rowney also found the back of the net to help Matt Murray earn the win with a 32 save performance. With the win, Pittsburgh is now a point behind the Capitals for the Metropolitan lead. New Jersey received a pair of tallies from Kyle Palmieri with Beau Bennett and Stefan Noesen also scoring but Keith Kinkaid took the loss despite 37 save effort.
The Panthers are 4-0 in their last 4 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and the under is 4-0-1 in Panthers last 5 games playing on 1 days rest while the u nder is 5-0-1 in Panthers last 6 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game. The over is 10-1-2 in Penguins last 13 Sunday games and the Penguins are 11-2 in their last 13 Sunday games while the Penguins are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win. The Panthers are 2-15 in the last 17 meetings in Pittsburgh and the home team is 6-2 in the last 8 meetings while the over is 6-2-3 in the last 11 meetings.
Pittsburgh has done plenty of winning versus Florida and have scored plenty as well so for now I lean over until goalies are announced…
