The Nashville Predators go on the road to oppose the Pittsburgh Penguins in Friday NHL action.
The Nashville Predators squeezed by the Minnesota Wild 1-0 on the road Monday to avoid a third straight loss. The Minnesota offense couldn’t get on the scoreboard and Devan Dubnyk was saddled with the loss with an 18 save effort.
Ryan Johansen gave Nashville the only goal they would need with a shorthanded tally at 4:32 of the first period. Viktor Arvidsson and Mattias Ekholm posted assists for the Predators and Jusse Saros earned his third shutout of the season with 29 saves.
The Pittsburgh Penguins have won three in a row after thrashing the NY Rangers 5-2 on the road Monday. The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the first on goals from Brendan Lemieux and Vinnie Lettieri. Alexandar Georgiev struggled between the pipes for New York with five goals allowed on 36 shots to fall to 11-13-3.
Teddy Blueger topped the Penguins with a pair of markers with Nick Bjugstad, Justin Schultz and Matt Cullen lighting the lamp. Marcus Pettersson and Phil Kessel logged two assists each for Pittsburgh to make a winner of Matt Murray and his 33 stops.
Predators are 9-4 in their last 13 games playing on 3 or more days rest and Predators are 2-5 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record and Predators are 1-4 in their last 5 vs. Metropolitan.
Penguins are 4-1 in their last 5 games following a win and Penguins are 6-2 in their last 8 vs. Central and Penguins are 9-4 in their last 13 overall.
Predators are 0-6 in the last 6 meetings in Pittsburgh and Predators are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and favorite is 8-2 in the last 10 meetings.
These teams just met but rarely face each other so the trends have little value in my view. Something small on the Penguins…
