Two of the league’s hottest teams meet up in Pittsburgh on Thursday night as the Penguins host the New York Islanders in what should be an exciting Metro division contest.
The Islanders have been lighting up the lamp and are out to do it again here as they take on Tristan Jarry and the Penguins as they look for their ninth win in their last 12 tries but they will be in tough here against a Pittsburgh group that is 4-1 in their last five and has been excellent on home ice. The Isles are typically a much stronger team at home than on the road but they have won five of their last seven away from the Barclay’s Center and have netted the over in 18 of their last 26 overall and against a Pens side that has the likes of Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel, and Evgeni Malkin this one has all the makings of another high scoring affair as Jarry is slated to match up with Thomas Greiss.
The Penguins meanwhile were a tad inconsistent to start the season as it looked like their two year run of being the league’s top team was about to come to an end, but they have since rebounded nicely and have beaten up on teams on home ice. The Pens have had their way when their opponent is coming off a blowout and with the Isles giving up five goals in their last outing this certainly fits the bill as they have won five in a row in such a context and certainly have the home ice advantage in this one. This should be a very exciting game that won’t have a shortage of fire works when it comes to offense and the line set at six goals may not be nearly enough.
The Isles are 10-4 in their last 14 Thursday games and have hit the over in 16 of their last 21 against the East while the Pens are 7-3 in their last 10 Thursday games and are 22-7 against the Isles in their last 29 meetings in Pittsburgh. New York struggles mightily in Pittsburgh and they should have issues again here but the play here is on the over as this one should hit by the end of the second.
