The Islanders look for their second win in as many nights as they travel to Pittsburgh to face the Pens after taking down the Panthers at home last night.
The New York Islanders got a big win over a fellow playoff contender on home ice last night and moved to within a single point of the New York Rangers in the Metro division heading into their show down against the Pens on Tuesday. The Isles hold on to the third and final automatic berth in their division and are four points clear of the Penguins heading into this encounter but they know it’ll be a tough match up on the road and with the potential being quite high they will start back up goaltender JF Berube in this spot it doesn’t bode well for them. The Isles are 17-13-4 on the road this season while the Penguins are 20-10-4 at home which sets up a potentially exciting battle but you have to give the goaltending edge to the home side.
The Penguins meanwhile head into tonight’s game looking to their third in a row after taking down the Rangers in their last outing and if this Pens side can generate some momentum heading into the playoffs they will be a very tough team to beat. The Penguins have a ton of offensive weapons but have underachieved this season and if they can sneak into the playoffs and get a favourable matchup they could very well shock everyone and go on a deep run in the Eastern Conference. However, in order to get there they will have to finish the season strong and home ice wins against division rivals are essential and while the Islanders have been playing well of late I think this is Pittsburgh’s game to lose and they take advantage of a back up goaltender in the pipes.
