The New York Islanders look to book their ticket to the Metro division championship with a win on Tuesday night as they hold a 3-0 series lead on the Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Islanders have been the talk of the playoffs so far as they have raced out to a huge lead over the Pittsburgh Penguins and can be the first team to advance to the second round with a victory in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. The Isles were one of the biggest surprises in the league this season as as they had a very impressive season without the services of John Tavares who opted to sign with the Toronto Maple Leafs in the offseason and a matchup in the playoffs isn’t out of the question and would certainly bring things full circles. The Isles would match up with the winner of the Hurricanes and Capitals if they can get a victory in one of their next 3 contests but things aren’t going to be easy on them as they face off here against a Pens side with a ton of experience and talent and their backs against the wall.

The Penguins meanwhile are heavy favorites heading into this do or die situation at home but trends are not in their favor here as they are just 1-4 in their last 5 Conference quarterfinal games and the Isles have had their number. Pittsburgh was the favorite coming into this series despite the fact that the Isles were the higher seed and had home ice advantage but with a 1-4 mark in their last 5 games against a team with a winning record and a 2-6 record in their last 8 meetings with the Islanders things don’t look overly positive for the home team here.

The Islanders are 4-0 in their last 4 home games and 4-0 in their last 4 games against the Metro division while the Pens are winless in their last 4 games as a favorite and are 31-11 in their last 42 meetings at home against New York. The value here is on the Islanders who have won 3 in a row here but the Pens are too good to get swept and extend things for at least one more game.
