The New York Rangers look to shake off a shootout loss to the Panthers last night as they take to the road to face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Monday.
The Blue Shirts dropped a rare home game last night to the struggling Panthers in what was a very exciting, shootout final and now they have to regroup as they head into Pittsburgh to take on the defending Cup champions. New York has a very well balanced roster and are still 8-2 in their last 10 overall despite the set back yesterday and even in a losing effort they accumulated another point and are among the best teams in the Eastern Conference so far this season. The Rangers need an inspired effort on the road here though as they will likely send Antii Raanta to the crease after Henrik Lundqvist got the nod last night and he will face off against Marc-Andre Fleury who has seen most of the action in the Penguins crease this season thanks to the offseason injury to Matt Murray.
The Penguins have been business as usual to start the season and seem to play their best when they face off against the best and despite an ugly loss to the Capitals last week they have rebounded nicely and have gone on a tear since then. The Penguins also seem to thrive when they play a number of games in a tight window as they are 9-2 in their last 11 games during the fourth game of a 4-6 situation and Monday’s show down sets them up for that exact context on home ice against a tired Rangers team playing in a back to back.
The Rangers are 4-1 in their last five road games and 4-11 in their last 15 against the Metro while the Pens are 41-17 in their last 58 overall and 8-1 in their last nine home games against a team with a road winning percentage above .600. The Penguins are the play here as they are the better team and are well rested and they should be able to get this one done in regulation
