The New York Rangers visit the Pittsburgh Penguins in a Tuesday NHL matchup.
The New York Rangers are hoping to keep the good times going with a trip to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday. New York has won five of six following a 5-1 win versus the visiting Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night. The Hurricanes opened the scoring with Justin Williams lighting the lamp 56 seconds in to the game but that was the only offensive highlight. Carolina received 21 saves from Scott Darling in defeat.
The Penguins scored twice in the second and three times in the third with Michael Grabner leading the way with a hat trick that featured a pair of empty net tallies. David Desharnais and Paul Carey also found the scoring column to provide plenty of support for Henrik Lundqvist who recorded 32 stops in picking up the victory.
The defending Stanley Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins have been playing well at both ends of the ice in building a four game winning streak capped off by a 5-1 victory versus the visiting Buffalo Sabres on Saturday night. Buffalo avoided being shutout for the 4th straight time when Jason Pominville scored in the third but Chad Johnson needed more help with just 24 stops.
The Penguins were balanced on the attack with Evgeni Malkin, Carl Hagelin, Patric Hornqvist, Phil Kessel and Sidney Crosby each finding the back of the net. Pittsburgh received a pair of helper from Kris Letang while Tristan Jarry made 32 stops as the Pens upped their record to 14-0-1 in the last 15 meetings against the Sabres.
Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 after scoring 5 goals or more in their previous game and Rangers are 4-0 in their last 4 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game and over is 8-1 in Rangers last 9 games following a win. Over is 3-0-1 in Penguins last 4 home games and Penguins are 4-0 in their last 4 overall and Penguins are 8-1 in their last 9 games playing on 2 days rest. Over is 5-0-1 in the last 6 meetings in Pittsburgh and over is 6-1-1 in the last 8 meetings. Rangers are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings.
Plenty of scoring is what happens when these teams meet so I’ll go with the over pending goalies…
