The Penguins look to stay red hot and jump into a playoff spot as they take on their division rivals from New York on Wednesday.
The Rangers head into Pittsburgh on Wednesday looking to win their fourth game in a row and distance themselves from the pack in the Metro division but will be in tough against Sidney Crosby and the Penguins who are 7-2-1 in their last 10 games. The Blue Shirts have been quietly putting together a nice season once again but thanks to Washington’s ridiculous record they have flown under the radar and sit with a respectable 30-18-5 mark through their first 53 games. New York is rumored to have some pieces on the move but now that they are in a nice spot in terms of qualifying for the playoffs it’ll be interesting to see if they stand pat or become buyers as they could use a piece or two to push them over the edge. New York will look for their 11th road win of the season as Henrik Lundqvist will face off against Marc-Andre Fleury.
The Penguins meanwhile have gone from one of the league’s biggest underachievers to a dark horse team to win the East and it is no coincidence that the team’s success is directly correlated to the improving play of Sidney Crosby. The Pens captain and face of the league was on pace for career lows in virtually every category this season but after an impressive January he has turned it up in February and has quietly moved into fifth in league scoring. Pittsburgh has had its struggles but are coming off a huge win over the Ducks and I see that continuing here against a New York side that seems to have something missing this year.
