The New York Rangers look to even their opening round series with the Pittsburgh Penguins as the teams meet up in Pittsburgh on Saturday.

The New York Rangers took one on the chin in their series opener with the Penguins on Thursday night and will look to steal home ice advantage with a much better showing on Saturday. The Blue Shirts lost more than just the game though as Henrik Lundqvist took a stick in the face and was out for the reminder of the contest and his status for this one is still up in the air as Antii Raanta will be ready to go if Lundqvist isn’t and while he has been very strong in relief this season I think it is safe to say the team plays better with the King in goal. The Rangers do have a nice roster and do match up well with the Penguins but they need to find a way to contain the Pittsburgh offense and with Evgeni Malkin lined up to return things could get even tougher for New York moving forward.

The Penguins meanwhile continued their strong showing after finishing the year as one of the league’s hottest teams and carried that momentum over into game one in what was a 5-2 final for home side. Pittsburgh is a scary team right now as they have a ton of offensive fire power and are getting one of the league’s best players back as early as game two as Evgeni Malkin is ready to contribute and help lead the Pens on another deep playoff run. The Penguins are in the midst of some goaltending issues of their own as Marc-Andre Fleury’s status is up in the air and while Jeff Zatkoff played well in game one and could diffuse some of the discussion surrounding Fleury’s return you can be sure the team would love to have the former first overall pick back between the pipes. The Rangers drew a tough first round matchup against the Pens and should put up a fight when they get back home but I am not sold on them here as the Pens get another big win.
