The Rangers look to stay alive with a win on the road against the Penguins when the teams meet up in Pittsburgh on Saturday.
The New York Rangers dropped both of their games in this series at MSG this week and now face elimination back in Pittsburgh without any momentum after the Pens netted a 5-0 victory in game four. The Blue Shirts made some noise at the trade deadline by acquiring Eric Staal but the move doesn’t appear to have paid off as they look helpless right now and face a tough task heading into Consol to face off against a very good home team and one that is already looking ahead to a potential show down with the Flyers or Capitals in round two. Henrik Lundqvist will likely get the start here with Antii Raanta waiting in the wings, while Matthew Murray will continue to get the action in the Pittsburgh goal.
The Penguins are absolutely on fire right now and look like a Cup contender through the first four games of this series and coming off a 5-0 drubbing of a good Rangers side has to give them a ton of confidence heading back home. The Pens have gotten a well balanced attack with a number of different guys stepping up and getting involved on the score sheet and while they have become a team that is known for their playoff underachieving over the last few seasons they certainly fit the bill right now and should have no trouble getting a win tonight. New York is a good side but don’t have enough here as the Penguins wrap up a rather brief series at home.
