Wednesday night NHL action features the Ottawa Senators visiting the Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Ottawa Senators have been playing some of their best hockey with wins in four of five before falling behind early in dropping a 6-3 decision at the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday. Ottawa received goals from Johnny Oduya, Derick Brassard and Ryan Dzingel with Craig Anderson allowing three goals on ten shots before Mike Condon came on to stop 28-30.
Mitch Marner paced an explosive Maple Leafs offense with a hat trick with Auston Matthews, James van Riemsdyk and Patrick Marleau joining the scoring column. Marner also added three assists and Marleau logged a pair of helpers to lift surging Toronto and Frederik Andersen’s 22 stops to the win.
The surging Pittsburg Penguins have been looking like the two time defending Stanley cup winner after a generally inconsistent first half. Pittsburgh handed St. Louis a 4-1 defeat on Sunday where the Blues saw Kyle Brodziak score their lone goal in the second.
The Penguins saw Sydney Crosby score twice with Bryan Rust and Riley Sheahan joining the scoring column. Dominik Simon gave Pittsburgh a pair of helpers and Matt Murray picked up the win with 33 saves while Jake Allen stopped 19 shots in taking the loss.
Senators are 1-7 in their last 8 Tuesday games and Senators are 1-5 in their last 6 games playing on 2 days rest and Senators are 5-1 in their last 6 vs. Metropolitan. Over is 4-0 in Penguins last 4 home games and Penguins are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning % below .400 and Penguins are 5-1 in their last 6 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game. Senators are 1-4 in the last 5 meetings and Senators are 5-16 in the last 21 meetings in Pittsburgh and under is 6-2-2 in the last 10 meetings.
The Penguins have suddenly flipped the switch and are difficult to go against in this spot…
