The Penguins and Senators renew hostilities on Tuesday night in the first game action after the all star break as both teams get set for a playoff push.
The Ottawa Senators are hoping for another late season run to get them into hockey’s second season and things get serious in a hurry as they take on one of their arch rivals in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. The Sens head into action sitting six points back of the Detroit Red Wings for third place in the Atlantic division and will be hard pressed to sneak past the Bruins, and the contenders in the Metro for a wild card spot that includes the Penguins. Ottawa is 11-13-2 on the road this season and will send Craig Anderson to the crease as he will take on Marc-Andre Fleury who will backstop the Penguins who are 14-7-4 at home this season.
The Penguins are primed for a late season surge and their play before the all-star break is a sign of things to come as they sit just four points out of second place in the Metro and while they won’t catch the Capitals it would be nice to grab home ice in the first round. Pittsburgh was 5-2-3 heading into the break and with Sidney Crosby getting some rest after getting snubbed to participate in the all-star game it makes you wonder whether he will continue his trend of lighting it up in the second half of the year. The Pens are in a good spot here and while Ottawa usually gives Pittsburgh a good game I like the home side here as Crosby and company get started with a big win.
