The Battle of Pennsylvania takes centre stage on Thursday night as the Flyers head into Pittsburgh to battle the Penguins.
The Philadelphia Flyers look to upstage their instate rivals and climb up the Metro division standings in the process as they are a single point back of the Pens heading into tonight’s game and six back of the third place Islanders. The Flyers have been playing better of late but they face a tough test here as the Pens seem to have figured things out after a sluggish start to the year and have points in in eight of their last 10 games. The Flyers are 9-10-3 on the road this season and will likely turn to Steve Mason in crease while the Penguins are 11-7-4 at home and will counter with Marc-Andre Fleury.
The Penguins meanwhile were in jeopardy of being one of the biggest disappointments in recent memory after a very sloppy start to the year and while they are still not in the position many expected they have started to pick things up a bit. Pittsburgh has a ton of weapons in the offensive zone but have been among the league’s lowest scoring teams all season but for a group that includes Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin, and Phil Kessel they have the luxury of busting out at any point in the game and in a show down here against their arch rivals I see that being the difference. The Pens get the win on home ice.
