Pittsburgh Penguins -160 / Philadelphia Flyers +144
The Philadelphia Flyers and the Pittsburgh Penguins meet in NHL action from the PPG Paints Arena on Sunday night.
The Philadelphia Flyers will look to rebound from back-to-back losses after a 7-6 loss to Toronto in their last outing. Jakub Voracek opened the scoring for the Flyers before Toronto tied the game by the end of the 1st period. James Van Riemsdyk scored a pair of goals 7:11 apart to take a 3-1 lead before Toronto cut the deficit back to 3-2. Radko Gudas and Shayne Gostisbehere scored :58 apart to push the lead to 5-2. The comeback was on for Toronto, as the Leafs scored 5 unanswered goals to take a 7-5 lead. JVR scored his 3rd of the game for the hat-trick, but it was too little too late as Toronto held on for the win. Brian Elliott took the loss, falling to 11-9-1 after allowing all 7 goals on 51 shots faced in the losing effort.
The Pittsburgh Penguins will look to rebound after a 5-1 loss to the St. Louis Blues in their last outing. St. Louis took a 2-0 lead after the opening period and pushed the lead to 4-0 within the first 2:41 of the 2nd period with a pair of goals 1:10 apart. Dominik Simon finally got the Pens on the board just before the midway point of the 2nd period, but that’s all the scoring that Pittsburgh would do, as St. Louis added a 5th for good measure. Matt Murray took the loss, falling to 24-12-3 after allowing 4 goals on 13 shots before being pulled early in the 2nd period.
Philadelphia is 8-3 in their last 11 road games and 18-8 in their last 26 games overall while the over is 4-0 in their last 4 games against a team with a winning record. Pittsburgh is 6-1 in their last 7 games overall and 6-2 in their last 8 games against a team with a losing record while the under is 4-1 in their last 5 home games. The road team is 7-1 in the last 8 meetings between these two teams.
The road team has had the bulk of the success in this matchup, but as good as Philadelphia has played as of late, the Flyers are starting to lose steam in the playoff race. Pittsburgh is getting hot just at the right time and are starting to pick up steam and have had the bulk of the success between these two teams. I’ll lay the juice with Pittsburgh in this spot as I’m just starting to lose hope with the Flyers.
