The Line: Pittsburgh Penguins -210 / Philadelphia Flyers +175 --- Over/Under: 5.5
The Philadelphia Flyers continue their first round NHL playoff matchup at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday.
The Philadelphia Flyers headed in to the postseason with a full head of steam with wins in four of five but the team was 0-4 in the season series with first round opponent Pittsburgh. Make that 0-5 on the year as Pittsburgh took a 1-0 series lead with a 7-0 victory on Wednesday.
The Flyers trailed 3-0 in the opening period and never recovered with turnovers leading to goals combined with an overall poor night between the pipes from Brian Elliott who allowed five goals on 19 shots before Petr Mrazek gave up two goals on 14 shot in relief.
Sydney Crosby led the Penguins offensive explosion with a hat trick while Bryan Rust, Carl Hagelin, Evgeni Malkin and Jake Guentzel joined the scoring column. Guentzel and Brian Dumoulin each added two helpers for the Penguins and Matt Murray brushed aside 24 shots for the victory.
Flyers are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a loss of 3 or more goals and over is 10-1 in Flyers last 11 vs. Eastern Conference and over is 11-2 in Flyers last 13 when their opponent scores 5 goals or more in their previous game. Over is 7-0 in Penguins last 7 games playing on 1 days rest and over is 4-0 in Penguins last 4 Conference Quarterfinals games and Penguins are 8-1 in their last 9 Conference Quarterfinals games. Over is 6-0 in the last 6 meetings and Flyers are 0-5 in the last 5 meetings and Flyers are 1-6 in the last 7 meetings in Pittsburgh.
Coming in to this series the knock on the Penguins was their defense and goaltending and I don’t think that has suddenly changed. I’ll take a stab at the over and wait for the Flyers to announce a goalie…
