The Washington Capitals look for their 8th win in a row as they renew hostilities with the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday night.
The Capitals head into Pittsburgh in another rendition of Alex Ovechkin-Sidney Crosby with playoff positioning on the line and both teams have really turned things up of late and are looking like Cup contenders once again. Washington has dominated division opponents lately with a 5-0 stretch in their last 5 contests and are getting a ton of value here as a road dog and the Caps have been the model of consistency lately as they are 23-9 in their last 32 games following a win. Washington is expected to send Braden Holtby to the crease here as he will face off against Matt Murray who remains the Penguins’ starter despite having some shaky outings throughout the season.
Pittsburgh meanwhile is 4-1 in their last 5 games and are 6-2-2 in their last 10 overall and will be fired up for a home game here against their bitter rivals from Washington who still carry bragging rights as the defending Stanley Cup champions. The Penguins have gone on a tear against division rivals as well over the last couple of weeks as they are 10-4 in their last 14 games against teams from the Metro and while the fire power is in full force in this one these two sides have actually hit the Under in 10 of their last 14 games.
The Capitals are 4-1 in their last 5 games as an underdog and are 35-17 in their last 52 road games while the Penguins are 5-2 in their last 7 games as a favorite and 118-50 in their last 168 home games. Pittsburgh has started to play up to potential and they will be up for this one and while the Caps have been red hot the Penguins are always a tough out at home and are not overly expensive here.
