The Jets continue their road trip in Pittsburgh on Sunday after they dropped a 4-1 decision in Boston yesterday afternoon.
The Jets play their second game in as many nights as they travel from the TD Garden in Boston after playing one Eastern Conference power to the Consol Energy Center to play against another. The Jets made the move to the Western Conference this season after spending the last two in the lackluster Southeast division and while it hasn’t prepared them for what competition is like in the West it does give them some insight into the playing styles of teams in the East. Winnipeg will look to avenge an ugly loss yesterday to the Atlantic division leading Bruins and are likely to go with Al Montoya here as Ondrej Pavelec got the start yesterday. The Penguins meanwhile are coming off a rare Saturday night off and they’ll be geared up to give the fans something to cheer about.
Pittsburgh continues to be the class of the Eastern Conference as the Metropolitan division leaders hold the biggest edge over the rest of their foes in terms of divisional standing with a whopping 15 point edge over the Flyers and Capitals. The Pens have enjoyed a full season out of Sidney Crosby as the game’s best player has been riddled with injuries over the last couple seasons and now we get to watch one of the greatest talents go to work and he is definitely leading the way for Pittsburgh. The Pens have so much offensive firepower with the likes of Evgeni Malkin, Chris Kunitz, and James Neal providing secondary scoring and there are very few if any that can compete with the Pens in terms of scoring goals. This is a bad spot for the Jets as they come off one game against the Bruins and now must shift their focus against a high powered Pens team and I don’t think the Jets have enough in the tank offensively. I like the Pens at home and to take a bit of juice off I suggest taking them in regulation.
