The San Jose Sharks welcome the Calgary Flames to the SAP Center for an NHL matchup on Wednesday.
The Calgary Flames are a team that has struggled to string more then a few wins together and need to reverse that trend going forward. Calgary could use a boost in scoring with the team ranking 21st in the NHL at 2.8 goals so more consistency at the offensive end is job number one. The Flames saw their chance at a three game winning streak end in a 3-2 defeat to the visiting Montreal Canadiens on Saturday.
The Canadiens took a 3-0 lead on goals off the sticks of Byron Froese, Nicolas Deslauriers and Brenden Gallagher. Froese also had an assist and Carey Price made 21 saves to lift the Canadiens to the win. The Flames received a pair of third period goals from Michael Ferland and Matthew Tkachuk with Mike Smith absorbing the loss with 32 saves.
The San Jose Sharks went in to the Christmas break riding back to back wins so the goal is to keep the momentum going through the New Year. San Jose comes off of a 2-0 victory versus the visiting Los Angeles Kings on Saturday in a contest that was dominated by defense and goaltending.
The Sharks took a 1-0 lead at the midway point of the second period on a Marcus Sorensen tally off of assists from Mikkel Boedker and Dylan Demelo with Joe Pavelski scoring on the power play on an assist from Brent Burns. Martin Jones stopped 28 shots for the Sharks while Jonathan Quick made 29 saves in a losing effort.
