West coast NHL action features the Calgary Flames visiting the San Jose Sharks on Saturday.
The Calgary Flames are suffering through an extended slowdown where the team has been unable to gee both ends of the ice on the same page. Calgary has dropped four straight following a 4-0 loss to the visiting Anaheim Ducks where Mike Smith allowed three goals on eleven shots with David Rittich stopping 4-5 shots in relief.
Andrew Cogliano, Ondrej Kase, Hampus Lindholm and Francois Beauchemin each scored for the Ducks. Ryan Getzlaf gave Anaheim a pair of helpers and Beauchemin also had an assist to make a winner of John Gibson and his 29 saves that earned him his 4h shutout.
The San Jose Sharks have always been a solid club and 2017-18 has been no different as the team is second in the Pacific behind the Vegas Golden Knights. San Jose has been surging with six consecutive victories following a 2-1 OT win versus Vegas on Thursday night.
The Golden Knights drew first blood at 3:47 of the first on a Tomas Tater tally before Brent Burns evened the score at 3:27 for the Sharks. Logan Couture secured the two points for San Jose with his goal 39 seconds in to overtime to make a winner of Martin Jones and his 24 saves while Malcolm Subban made 42 stops for Vegas.
Flames are 0-5 in their last 5 road games vs. a team with a home winning % of greater than .600 and Flames are 0-4 in their last 4 overall and Flames are 0-5 in their last 5 vs. a team with a winning record. Over is 5-0 in Sharks last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game and Sharks are 5-0 in their last 5 games following a win and over is 7-0 in Sharks last 7 vs. a team with a losing record. Under is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings in San Jose and Flames are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings and home team is 5-2 in the last 7 meetings.
Calgary is a decent team that shouldn’t be ignored but I’ll side with San Jose who has been lights out…
