The Chicago Blackhawks look to keep their faint playoff hopes alive as they head into San Jose to face off against the Sharks on Thursday night.

The Blackhawks head into San Jose looking to inch closer to a wild card spot in the Western Conference as they are currently 7 points back of the Colorado Avalanche for the final vacancy and have just 6 games left to make up ground and their schedule isn’t overly easy. Chicago has taken the league by storm through the second half of the season and have really made things interesting after it looked as though it was going to be another wasted season in the prime of their top two offensive weapons in Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane. The Hawks though have struggled away from home this season and while they are going to be playing with utmost desperation here they are taking on a Sharks side that will look to elevate their play heading into the playoffs and is one of the league’s best home ice teams.

The Sharks look like they are destined for an opening round matchup with the Vegas Golden Knights and if the season ended today they would possess home ice advantage in that series as they are sitting in 2nd place in the Pacific division with 95 points. San Jose looks as dangerous as any team in the NHL to go on a deep run in the playoffs as they are loaded with talent across the board and with the way they have been playing at home this season it will be tough for a team to win a decisive game at the SAP Center. However, the Sharks have struggled of late and are just 4-5-1 in their last 10 games and have lost 6 games in a row which doesn’t bode well for them with the playoffs just around the corner.

The Hawks are 1-4 in their last 5 games and have lost 4 in a row in San Jose while the Sharks are 7-1 in their last 8 games against the Central and winless in their last 6 games as a favorite. The Sharks need to bounce out of this funk but the Hawks are desperate for a win and with the fire power each side has expect this one to sail over the high total.
