The rested San Jose Sharks look to wear out a tired Detroit Red Wings squad in Thursday action.
The Detroit Red Wings will be playing their 4th game in six nights so they will need to reach back for something extra when they take the ice with San Jose Thursday. Being on the road and facing a white hot Los Angeles Kings team wasn't an ideal situation Tuesday but the Kings were pushed to thee brink in a 1-0 victory. The Red Wings gave up a first period tally to Justin Williams before both teams settled in to a defensive battle with Jonathan Quick saving the Kings with his 4th shutout of the year with 20 saves. The LAK won number eight in a row while Jonas Gustavsson couldn't get any support with a 26 save effort being nothing more then a loss.
The San Jose Sharks have been off since Saturday and they needed the time off to regroup from a recent funk that has produced losses in seven of ten. They seem to have the odds in their favor with a tired Detroit paying a visit. The Sharks did play well the last time out in a 2-1 loss to surging Los Angeles although the offense didn't do much against a red hot Jonathan Quick. Kyle Clifford and Marian Gaborik found the back of the net for the Kings with Quick picking up the win with a hefty 31 stops. Brent Burns lit the lamp for San Jose in the opening frame while Antti Niemi gave up both goals on 29 shots to absorb the loss. The Sharks are now battling the Kings for the second Wild Card with every point crucial from here on out.
The Red Wings are 8-0 in their last 8 road games vs. a team with a losing home record and 7-1 in their last 8 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game while going 7-1 in their last 8 after allowing 2 goals or less in their previous game. For San Jose the over is 4-0 in Sharks last 4 vs. Eastern Conference and is 4-0-1 in Sharks last 5 vs. a team with a winning record while the Sharks are 0-6 in their last 6 home games. Head to Head the under is 5-0-2 in the last 7 meetings and is 3-0-1 in the last 4 meetings in San Jose while the Red Wings are 1-5 in the last 6 meetings in San Jose. This is a tough one and I don't see a real edge. Perhaps a small play on the over...
