The Los Angeles Kings look to pull off the road upset in San Jose as they take on the Sharks who are fresh off of a huge statement win against the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Kings look to continue their recent success in Monday night games as they head into San Jose to face off with the Sharks and with a victory tonight they would extend their stretch to 9-2 over their last 11 games to start off the week. Los Angeles got off to a very slow start this season and were looking as if they were going to be in the mix for the top overall draft pick in the offseason but they have turned things around a little bit and could very well play their way back into the playoff picture with a strong second half. The Kings are 7-2 in their last 9 games against teams from the Western Conference and are coming off a home win against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday night but the stakes pick up significantly here as the Kings are 7-19 in their last 26 games following a win. Jonathan Quick is the projected starter for the Kings as he is likely to face off against former Kings goalie Martin Jones who has asserted himself as the team’s go to guy since making his way to San Jose.
The Sharks meanwhile are coming off a huge win at home against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night and will look for an encore here as they welcome their rivals from Los Angeles to the SAP Center on Monday night. San Jose won the lottery in the offseason when they landed Erik Karlsson from the Ottawa Senators and in a show down with arguably the league’s best team in the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday night they showed off why they are among the short list of Stanley Cup contenders. San Jose is 11-5 in their last 16 home games and are 4-1 in their last 5 games overall and against the Kings on Monday the odds makers are expecting this to be a very one sided affair.
The Kings are 7-17 in their last 24 road games and 5-2 in their last 7 against the Pacific while the Sharks are 6-2 in their last 8 following a win and 29-13 in their last 42 against the Pacific. Los Angeles is turning it around and the road team has had success in this series but San Jose should get it done without much difficulty.
