The Sharks look to continue their hot play of late as they host one of the league's best from Nashville on Saturday night in San Jose.
The Nashville Predators have been the model of consistency in the NHL this season and sport an impressive 19-7-2 mark just a year removed from missing the playoffs altogether and appearing to still be in limbo between a contender and rebuilding. The Preds have been very solid through the first third of the season and look the part to continue making a push towards a division title as they are one of the best defensive teams in hockey, have a great goaltender in Pekka Rinne, and have demonstrated on a number of occasions this season that they can score as well. The Preds have been a little lackluster on the road with five of their seven losses coming outside of Nashville and the key mark for a great team is being able to win on the road but the sample size is small enough for the Preds to feel confident they can turn it around and compete not only at home but on the road as well. Rinne is expected to start for Nashville as he will go up against Antii Niemi for the Sharks.
San Jose is starting to turn things around after their speed bump in November but a 6-2-2 stretch in their last 10 games has them on the rise in the Pacific division as they sit tied for third with the Flames with 36 points. The Sharks as mentioned a number of times before are incredibly streaky and when they get on rolls like this they are very hard to slow down especially on home ice but all it takes is one bad loss and they could crumble back in the other direction. San Jose is getting the nod here by the odds makers as they are playing at home in what would otherwise be considered a pick em and while Nashville continues to get disrespected I think the spot here for San Jose is very nice and I think they continue to add to Nashville road woes. Give me San Jose at a nice price at home.
