The Nashville Predators look for a statement win as they head into San Jose to battle the Sharks on Saturday night.
The Predators look to join the discussion of the league’s elite with a big time road win against the defending Western Conference champions as they take on the San Jose Sharks at the Shark Tank in what should be an exciting contest between two playoff hopefuls. The Preds head into Saturday night’s show down sitting in third place in the Central division but are just two points up on the St. Louis Blues for the second wild card spot and with the Wild and Hawks locked into the top two spots with a huge point buffer the race will come down to the third and final spot. Nashville got off to a very slow start to the season but they have since played their way back into the postseason picture and if they can get a win on the road here against a very good San Jose team it would certainly be a confidence booster as we head into the home stretch of the NHL regular season.
The Sharks meanwhile have a seven point buffer on the Anaheim Ducks for top spot in the Pacific division which accounts for the biggest lead for any first place team in the NHL and as the season winds down and the Sharks continue to pile up the wins it becomes more and more of a sure thing that they will be given the chance to defend their Western Conference crown. The Sharks have a ton of weapons in the offensive zone but it has been the play of converted forward turned defenseman Brent Burns who has led the team offensively as he has been a very exciting player to watch and will certainly be in the mix for the top defenseman award in the offseason.
The Preds are winless in their last four games and 2-6 in their last eight road games while the Sharks are 6-1 in their last seven against the Central and 4-1 in their last five against the West. This is an afternoon game in San Jose and I think the Sharks will be geared up for a big effort in front of the home fans as they have their way with Nashville here.
