New York Rangers (46-26-4) at San Jose Sharks (42-26-7)

The Line: San Jose Sharks -120 / New York Rangers +109 --- Over/Under: 5
The New York Rangers battle the San Jose Sharks in west coast NHL hockey on Tuesday.
The New York Rangers possess an offense capable of scoring in bunches although it wasn’t nearly big enough to overcome a defense and goaltending that struggled in a 6-3 defeat at the Anaheim Ducks on Sunday. Henrik Lundqvist looked rusty after returning from a three week hiatus because of a hip injury despite a 28 save effort. Derek Stepan, Brady Skjei and Rick Nash each scored for the Rangers. The surging Ducks received their offense from Patrick Eaves with a pair of tallies with Josh Manson, Ryan Kesler, Andrew Cogliano and Nick Ritchie each found the back of the net for Anaheim. Ryan Getzlaf totaled four assists while Jonathan Bernier mustered 28 stops as Anaheim won number four in a row and eight of ten.
The San Jose Sharks have been struggling so the sight of the surging Nashville Predators on the road was probably not welcome. The Sharks continued to struggle in a 7-2 defeat on Saturday where nothing went their way while the Predators could do no wrong. The San Jose attack produced goals from Justin Braun and Patrick Marleau while Martin Jones made 27 stops as the Sharks fell for the 6th straight time. Nashville received a pair of goals each from James Neal and Colton Sissons with PK Subban, Cody McLeod and Viktor Arvidsson also lighting the lamp. Colin Wilson and Craig Smith posted three helpers apiece to make Pekka Rinne and his 26 stops an easy winner. The Preds have now won six of seven to rise to third in the Central.
The Rangers are 1-6 in their last 7 in the third game of a 3-in-4 situation and the Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent allows 5 goals or more in their previous game while the Rangers are 1-4 in their last 5 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game. The Sharks are 0-5 in their last 5 after scoring 2 goals or less in their previous game and the Sharks are 0-6 in their last 6 overall while the Sharks are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. Metropolitan. The under is 5-1-1 in the last 7 meetings in San Jose and the home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings while the Rangers are 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
The Rangers have enjoyed success at San Jose with the under also hitting often and I’m leaning Rangers pending goalies…
