The Sharks look to shake off a loss to the Vancouver Canucks over the weekend as they welcome the Penguins to town who are in a dog fight for the Metro division crown.
The Penguins can wrap up their third straight victory and seventh in their last 10 with a trip to San Jose on Monday night and with a win they can jump into a tie for second place in the division with the New York Rangers. The Pens have been very consistent this season as they have been known over the better part of the last decade but they haven't been able to translate their regular season success into postseason glory over the last handful of seasons and have been known as choke artists in the last few after losing much easrlier than expected. The Pens though have their sights set on another division crown and while it'll be a tough task to complete they have the dogs to do it and are playing very well at the moment.
The Sharks meanwhile spoiled a successful road trip by dropping a decision at home against the Canucks on Saturday after building up a two goal lead and now they have dropped five points back of the Flames for the final playoff spot in the Pacific division. San Jose looks as though they could be on the outside looking in when it is all said and done in a few weeks time and that would surely serve as the final nail in the coffin for not only head coach Todd MacLellan but for this core of players that has had ample opportunity to win a Stanley Cup but hasn't been able to put it all together. As for tonight they are in tough as the Pens are just as desperate for a victory and they have already completed two thirds of the California sweep. Tonight they finish it off.
