The San Jose Sharks will look to make up for an embarrassing loss to the lowly Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night as they host the Canucks who are coming off an overtime loss of their own in Phoenix.
The Canucks were one of the hottest teams in the league heading into Tuesday night’s encounter with the Phoenix Coyotes and while they still played a solid game offensively, it was their defense that ultimately cost them the second point and the win. The Canucks head into San Jose tonight to take on a Sharks team who despite losing three games in a row still only has a single loss in regulation this season. Vancouver is buying into a system of two way hockey under new head coach John Tortorella and the new look Canucks seem like they’re a tougher team to compete against and we will see how much the change will make a difference against one of the better teams in the league. Roberto Luongo gets the call for the Canucks as he goes up against Antii Niemi.
San Jose has lost three straight contests all in overtime or a shootout leaving them with a 10-1-4 mark on the season. The Sharks have to be feeling a little bit disappointed in the fact that they couldn’t defeat the lowly Buffalo Sabres at home no less and you can expect a more fired up bunch here tonight. This is a possible playoff matchup this season as both teams are destined for hockey’s second season and if they continue to go the way they are right now it could be for a berth in the Stanley Cup finals. Antii Niemi has been very solid in the Sharks’ crease and they have received plenty of balanced scoring making them a dangerous team to play against. While San Jose is playing better on the whole this season there is absolutely no reason why they’re this heavy of a favourite as Vancouver is a very solid team that has more than a good chance to win this hockey game. It is a swing taking them money line but it’s well worth the risk and I’m going to take a shot.
