The Vegas Golden Knights look to shake off a series opening loss in San Jose as they take on the Sharks for Game 2 on Friday night.
The Golden Knights made some moves at the trade deadline this season with the biggest splash coming in the form of former Sens forward Mark Stone but they have backed their way into the playoffs and didn’t look great in their series opener against the Sharks on Wednesday night. Vegas couldn’t miss last season and rode their magical season all the way to the Cup final against the Washington Capitals but nobody has taken them lightly this season and as such they haven’t had the same success as they did a season ago and they could very well find themselves in a one and done situation this season. However, the Knights are still a good hockey team and will look to steal home ice advantage away from the Sharks and head back to Sin City with a split in San Jose which would certainly be a victory for them and give them a ton of momentum heading back home for games 3 and 4.
The Sharks meanwhile looked very good in their playoff debut and are out to exact some revenge after last season’s second round defeat at the hands of the Golden Knights. San Jose has won 5 games in a row in the opening round of the playoffs and are an impressive 23-9 in their last 32 games following a win which puts them in a good spot here as a slight home favorite against a Knights side who has struggled over the last few weeks and will certainly need to a find another gear if they’re going to get back in this series. San Jose is has had their way with Pacific division rivals over the last couple of years as they are 40-19 in their last 59 games but they are going to have their hands full here with a Golden Knights side who couldn’t have looked worse in their playoff opener.
The Knights are 7-19 in their last 26 games as an underdog and 1-8 in their last 8 overall while the Sharks are 4-1 in their last 5 as a favorite and 4-9 in their last 13 overall. The over has been a popular trend in this series but expect Marc-Andre Fleury to bounce back here and at least give Vegas a chance to win which should keep this one under the number.
