The Anaheim Ducks look to stop the bleeding and break out of their offensive slmp as they head into St. Louis to battle the Blues.
The Anaheim Ducks were a win away from the Stanley Cup Final a season ago as they fell in game seven against the Chicago Blackhawks and that success and the return of their core had expectations very high in California this season. However, a dismal 1-6-2 record and just nine goals through nine contests has them in the basement of the Western Conference and in a very tough place with head coach Bruce Boudreau. The Ducks will certainly play their way out of this tailspin but it is something to look at as they don't have a ton of offensive depth on their third and fourth lines and their blue line hasn't been producing in front of Frederik Andersen who has actually put up some very impressive numbers despite the losses. Unfortunately for the Ducks, they head into St. Louis to battle another Western power and will face off against Jake Allen who recorded a shutout against the Lightning in his last time out.
The Blues are 6-2-1 on the year and looking every bit as talented as people expected them to be and after a slow start from Jake Allen he answered the bell against a high octane Tampa Bay offense on Tuesday and recorded a shutout. St. Louis sits in the middle of a log jammed Central division but with Kevin Shattenkirk slated to return this week the Blues look like they will only get better and could separate themselves from the rest of the pack despite playing without Paul Stastny and Jaden Schwartz for the foreseeable future. This Ducks team is too good to continue to struggle this badly but it is tough to back a team when they're in this kind of funk so I think the better play is on the total and with these two teams and these two goaltenders the best play in this game is on the under.
