The Anaheim Ducks look for a big road win against the St. Louis Blues as the two sides meet up in Missouri on Thursday evening.
The Ducks head into St. Louis on Thursday with some key pieces back in the lineup as Ryan Getzlaf has returned after a lengthy stint on the shelf and they have a chance to pull off a pretty big upset here as the Blues have been among the league’s best all season long. Anaheim came into the season expecting to be in the mix for top spot in the Pacific division and while they have been a tad inconsistent to start the season they are starting to get healthy and catch a Blues side here that is without their best defender Alex Pietrangelo who was placed on the IR. Anaheim is expected to send John Gibson to the crease here as he will face off against Jake Allen in a battle of young goaltenders who are continuing their quest to join the league’s elite when it comes to netminders.
The Blues head into tonight’s game looking to extend their recent success on Thursday night as they are 10-2 in their last 12 games but they will be in tough coming off a home loss to the league leading Tampa Bay Lightning. St. Louis has dominated their recent history with the Ducks in St. Louis as they have won four of their last five matchups at home and with a 13-6 record in their last 19 home games it makes sense to see the Blues as such a heavy favourite in a game that on paper at least figures to be quite close. The Ducks have struggled against the Central division though as they have dropped eight of their last nine and they will need a strong effort to shake out of that trend on this night.
The Ducks are 1-5 in their last six road games and 3-8 in their last 11 overall while the Blues are 16-7 in their last 23 against the Pacific and 42-20 in their last 62 overall. The Ducks have struggled lately and need to rebound and while the Blues are one of the league’s best I think their mini streak hits another game here as the loss of Pietrangelo hurts.
