The St. Louis Blues welcome the Arizona Coyotes to the Scottrade Center for an NHL hockey bout.
The Arizona Coyotes are not going to the postseason so being the spoiler is about the only thing they can do with the regular season winding down. The Coyotes gave the best team in hockey a battle before eventually falling 4-1 to the Washington Capitals on Saturday. The Yotes never got their offense going with Peter Holland scoring a third period goal that erased a 1-0 deficit. Mike Smith played well in defeat as he gave Arizona a chance with a 29 save performance. The Capitals haven’t been as ‘lights out’ as they were before the All Star break but they had enough in the tank to get by the Coyotes with Daniel Winnik scoring twice with Alex Ovechkin and Justin Williams also scoring to give plenty of support to Braden Holtby who made 28 stops.
The St. Louis Blues have been playing well and even more important, they are playing well at the perfect time of the season. The Blues had a great opportunity to get another win Saturday against a solid Calgary Flames squad before a late goal in the closing seconds of overtime gave the Flames a 3-2 victory. Sean Monahan was the Calgary star with his tally coming with a mere three seconds remaining in the extra session. The Flames also saw Matt Bartkowski and Troy Brouwer find the back of the net while Brian Elliott recorded 29 stops as Calgary improved to a hefty 13-4 in OT. The surging Blues had their four game winning streak come to an end with Jaden Schwartz and Ivan Barbashev scoring with Jake Allen absorbing the loss on a 28 save effort.
The Coyotes are 0-5 in their last 5 games playing on 1 days rest and the under is 4-0-2 in Coyotes last 6 Monday games while the under is 3-0-1 in Coyotes last 4 vs. Western Conference. The under is 4-0-2 in Blues last 6 vs. Pacific and the under is 4-0-1 in Blues last 5 Monday games while the under is 11-2-3 in Blues last 16 games playing on 1 days rest. The Coyotes are 0-4 in the last 4 meetings in St. Louis and the under is 6-1-2 in the last 9 meetings in St. Louis while the Coyotes are 7-22 in the last 29 meetings.
The Blues have been solid against the Coyotes and the under has been a dependable side so I’ll back St. Louis in some form until goalies are announced…
