The Buffalo Sabres look to break their St. Louis curse as they head into Missouri to take on the Blues on Thursday night.
The Sabres have been one of the league’s biggest surprises so far this season as they have gone from selecting with the first overall draft pick to a playoff contender but they have had a rough go over the last handful of seasons when facing off with the Blues. The Sabres are a woeful 3-21 in their last 24 meetings with St. Louis and are a miserable 1-10 in their last 11 games in St. Louis but will have some extra motivation in this one as Carter Hutton will be facing off against his old team. The Sabres are 10-3 in their last 13 games following a win but have had a few days off during the holiday break and will need to start quickly if they’re going to take advantage of their recent success against a Blues team who has been among the league’s worst this season.
The Blues meanwhile have been one of the league’s biggest disappointments this season and haven’t been able to find any consistency as they are 1-7 in their last 8 games following a win and are among the league’s worst teams. St. Louis has a decent roster with some of the game’s better young players in Alex Pietrangelo and Vladimir Tarasenko but their secondary pieces haven’t been producing and as such they find themselves on the brink of a rebuild. The Blues have had the Sabres’ number over the years as we mentioned earlier and should be playing on plenty of rest and with a ton of confidence after a win in their last outing but the Sabres do match up well and will be just as rested as their opponents.
The Sabres are 19-58 in their last 77 games against the Central and 2-7 in their last 9 games playing on 3 or more days rest while the Blues are 21-3 in their last 24 games against Buffalo and have played to the Over in their last 4 home games. Buffalo is trending in the opposite direction of the Blues and as a dog they are the play here despite their woeful track record playing in this building.
