The Carolina Hurricanes will look to build on Friday night’s victory over the Anaheim Ducks as they head into St. Louis to take on the Blues.
The Hurricanes had their backs against the wall last night as they hosted the Ducks in Raleigh but they rallied and held on for a shootout win against one of the best teams in the league which has to be a huge confidence booster. Carolina currently sits in third place in the Metro division but they face a tough task here tonight as they’re playing in the back end of a doubleheader and face another one of the league’s top teams. Justin Peters continues to handle the goaltending duties with Cam Ward out of the picture but against a Blues team that is very deep Peters will have to have a spectacular outing if the Canes want to escape with a victory. Peters will go head to head with Brian Elliott who continues to be one of the league’s best “backups” giving the Blues the goaltending edge in this one.
St. Louis continues to be one of the league powerhouses, a reputation they have built over the last few seasons and they have a Cup or bust mentality this year after a number of people pegged them as the team to beat in the West. The Blues have a very solid core and are talented all over the ice making for matchup nightmares every night especially against teams who lack offensive depth. The Blues have just two regulation losses all season and against a Hurricanes team who is playing better but is still underachieving I expect the Blues to feast in this one. St. Louis is coming off a huge win at home over the Avs so they should full well be able to make quick work of the Hurricanes in a similar spot.
